Sony does something kind-of interesting, for once.

PlayStation 3 owners have been bummed out lately, and for good reason: the console SUCKS.

But fret not, all you who bought the over-priced black monolith. Sony is actually doing something kind-of interesting, for once.

According to the BBC News service, Sony is developing a new type of game based on the social networking phenomenon that swept the Internet SEVERAL YEARS AGO.

Sony's forthcoming game Home is a 3D social network very similar to Second Life. In fact, it might be called Another Second Life. (Third Life? Hmm.)

"This is not just about Sony brands and Sony games - it's a much wider network of connected spaces," said Phil Harrison of Sony Computer Entertainment. "There will be individual locations dedicated to game publishers, game developers, and titles."

"Over time it will extend to non-game brands," he added.

(COMMON SPEAK TRANSLATION: If you play this "game", you will be bombarded by advertising, and there will be no way to block it out.)

But, on the plus side, Home will allow unprecedented sharing of user-created content within a three-dimensional world ... Which is sort-of interesting -- if you don't own a PC.

Reached for comment, the managers of Democratic Presidential candidate John Edwards' Second Life space claimed, "As long as we don't have to suffer under the incessant tyranny of the Feces Spewing Obscenity, I think we might be right at home in Home."*

Sony has yet to confirm whether they will allow a Feces Spewing Obscenity in Home

"But I wouldn't count it out," remarked Sony's Phil Harrison. "We're real big on Feces Spewing Obscenities around here. In fact, I keep one in my backyard, just for whenever I want to, you know, show it off to my friends or impress a date. I mean, who doesn't love a Feces Spewing Obscenities? Seriously?"**

*definitely not an actual quote
**yeah, this one's fake too.
