Sega has not been keeping its friends happy lately.

But with a single announcement, a whole world of fanboys (and fangirls) were thrown into violent spasms of ecstasy. As gamers the Earth-over wept for joy, Sega and Japan's most popular gaming magazine, Famitsu, confirmed what used to be nothing more than an on-again, off-again April Fool's joke for many publications ...

Sega is making a sequel to the classic Saturn game NiGHTS into Dreams.

The game will be released on the Nintendo Wii, and will utilize a new and innovative control scheme. The game will have new levels, new NiGHTS, new "friends" and a whole new adventure.

"In 1996, we created the NiGHTS character to achieve a concept of 'being refreshed from being able to fly in the sky'," said Takashi Izuka of Sonic Team USA. "Eleven years later, at last, we have broken our silence. NiGHTS will now fly in a new dream world: new stages, new story, and on the new Wii platform. Please look forward to NiGHTS and friends exploring this brand new adventure."

That's it. That's all. We know nothing else.

Okay. We do know more. The game will have a co-op mode and unspecified online capabilities. And we've also got one - yes, just ONE - piece of game art.

Gamers the world over, brace yourselves. What many of us (this reporter included) recall as THE BEST game on the Amazing Sega Saturn is about to get a sequel. The Big Guy is coming back ...

Ohhhh, that's so hot.

**UPDATE
A French magazine called MaxiConsolas has not only a feature-length interview about NiGHTS for Wii, but a handful of screens as well. (They will make you very, very happy.)

Its no hoax, folks. NiGHTS is back.

Play-Nintendo has the translated interview with Takashi Iizuka. What he says will either mean absolutely nothing to you, or your entire childhood will flash before your eyes. One or the other. Hopefully not both.
