Steve Jobs, head of Apple, is coming out saying that he's challenging the major music labels to open their catalogs to his iTunes service sans Digital Rights Management, saying that it would open up iTunes to users of portable devices other than his iPod. He goes on to say that consumers don't want or need music with arbitrary restrictions on what programs and devices they can use them on.

I, having just signed up for iTunes and purchased my first album there, agree. I play my music library in winamp, which the protected files I purchased from iTunes cannot be played in. Thus I have two music programs open at any given moment. I'm with Jobs on this, and so should you.
