Forget the critics who cannot understand what is going on in a Bruckheimer produced film. Forget the cynics who want their movie going experience to have the picture hold the viewer's hand to beat the plot down their necks. Forget that Gore Verbinski also directed The Weatherman. Forget the reserved who only seek clear cut morality in Disney Films. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End expands the premise of a feature film based on a 60's animatronic ride into something more visceral and intense.
Some may wonder what happens to Captain Jack Sparrow after he goes into the afterlife. Others wonders how in the world Barbossa returns from the dead? Many wonder what is going to happen with William, Bootstrap Bill, Tia Dalma, Elizabeth, Norrigton, Governor Weatherby, Biggs, the competent Jack, and the rest of the crew of the Black Pearl by film's end? From looking at the trailer, cautious filmgoers wonder who are all of these other pirates and why on earth Chow Yun Fat is doing in a Disney film?
At World's End, expect to brave the weird and face one of the greatest movie villains yet; the East India Trading Company. At the end of Dead Man's Chest, Lord Cutler Beckett (played by Tom Hollander from Gosford Park and Absolutely Fabulous) of the East India Company possessed the heart of the cursed Davy Jones, not the singer from The Brady Bunch. Whoever possessed the heart of Davy Jones also commanded the Flying Dutchman and Beckett commands Jones and the Dutchman to help monopolize the seas for the East India Company. Watching the first few frames of the film honestly scared the freedom loving and innocent hearted who enjoys lighthearted stories; evil indeed has reared it's ugly head in the world like all great stories.
Do not be afraid of being exposed to concepts related to Voodoo, the afterlife, internal psychology, abstract imagery, treachery, heroes with different viewpoints, fangirl induced innuendo, parallel romances, quadruple-crosses, flat maps, more treachery, and pirates engaging the only business ethics that pirates know; everyone else is unethical.
I remember going to the Pirates of the Caribbean ride in Disney Land before the recent remodeling in 2005. There were pirates, gold, song, sea fights, wanderlust, and more song. At World's End helps brings those concepts to modern audiences while drawing influences from vast sources from historical acts of piracy, comic book inspired action, and even the modern day East India Trading Company; KRB. Expect to be satisfied after braving long side character sequences, constant violence, and the long heart breaking end. All of the questions are answered by the end of the film and unlike most films, few answers were questioned.
When seeing this movie expect a large screen thrill ride which animatronics cannot reproduce. Besides, the movie takes less time than the actual wait for the Disneyland Pirates of the Caribbean and you do not have to wait for two more people to be seated.
