Cooking Mama: My Eggs are Better Than Yours

I've always loved cooking. Not because it's a "womanly" thing to do, but because it's a damn fun thing to do.

That said, my cooking skills suck. I have no patience for recipies and like to pull random stuff together and create bearly edible dishes. Despite this obvious flaw in my technique, I've always dreamed of being a competitor on Iron Chef. Not that it'll ever happen mind you, but thanks to Nintendo, Cooking Mama: Cookoff is probably the closest I'll ever get.

I'm sure at least a few DS savvy people have heard of the original Cooking Mama. I'm sure we all saw it on the racks at Best Buy and wondered just what the hell that game with a cute little anime chick was. In the original the game focuses on the friendly "Mama" teaching you how to make various virtual dishes from there the player is graded on skill, time, and presentation. A very fun little game to own for the DS. This new version for the Wii takes the awesome from the first game and betters it by 100 times. It's still the same premise as the first game but this Cooking Mama, in addition to new dishes from around the world, prettier graphics and Mama's delightful "Japglish," boasts by far the best use of the Wiimote to date, a competitive "cook off" mode.

That's right. You can now challenge your friends to see who can make the best scrambled eggs ever.

While at first this may not seem like a very exciting endeavor, let me tell you that practically everyone that laid their hands on my Wii this past weekend and played CM:CO was instantly hooked with the super easy gameplay and the super competitive notion of making the best batch of creampuffs. Even my FPS-junkie boyfriend, who would protest "This shit is stupid!" every chance he got, accepted my cookoff challenges with absolutely no hesitation. At all.

This game is a great example of exactly what Nintendo was going for when they made the Wii. A fun, light, but challenging game that can be played by people of all ages and genders TOGETHER. Cooking Mama: Cookoff, while not a big flashy title or ultra-popular series, should be in every Wii owner's collection.

Karla Miranda: Cuter than a Taru, with more aggro than a gang of yags.
